A reasonable footprint, excellent orientation, and airtight building construction make this one high performing, stunning build. A large central living zone allows for family gatherings, whilst independent zones for bedrooms create retreat and study spaces. The use of natural materials features heavily inside and out, and the surrounding gardens are a major feature, as is the alpine valley landscape all around. With such a wonderful finish it is easy to forget that the building is a certified passive house, with almost no heating or cooling demand, and a constant supply of filtered fresh air.

The house was awarded the National HIA Best Energy Efficient Home in 2024.

The house is also featured with international passive house certifiers Sustainable Engineering as a key case study, lots of technical information here https://sustainableengineering.co.nz/casestudy/dawkins/
