A tight South sloping site, surrounding gum trees, and a modest budget were the challenges presented for this active retirement house. Luckily the clients were content to look at a compact and site adapted ‘long thin house’ to suit the topography. The building form was inspired by the surrounding Aussie bush – despite being almost in town. The glazing and decks are a pleasing mix of views southwards over the creekline & bushland, whilst wrapping around to the sunny side of the house. Construction on a neat arrangement of steel stumps, combined with a lightweight concrete panel floor and excellent windows & insulation make this a cosy winter abode, whilst having great breezes in summer. Natural timber flooring and decks combine with neat lines to make it a special little house.
